Industrial Cleaning(Acid Descaling) & Commissioning
In plant cleaning, hot acids are often used to reduce the shut-down period as it is essential to get plants on stream as soon as possible. It is necessary, therefore, to use an inhibitor with good thermal stability and excellent inhibition even at high temperatures.
Although hydrochloric acid is the acid most commonly used for plant cleaning sulfamic, sulphuric, citric and phosphoric acids are also used.
Cleaning is done in pre-commissioning of Boilers, and on erection of industrial plants. Industrial pipelines, heat exchangers, evaporators and various utility equipments are subjected to routine cleaning with suitable acids that includes EDTA to keep up production efficiency.
The purpose of an inhibitor is to prevent undue attack on the metal surface itself. If the acid is allowed to attack the metal, not only is acid wasted and metal lost, but also is the surface completely ruined.
